Set in 18th century South America. 'Zama' is trapped in a cruel and absurd colonial world he helped to create. He performs subservient duties as he waits longingly for a letter from the King which will allow him to leave for Buenos Aires - his boredom gives way to reveries. A visually rich (occasionally surreal) and blackly comic critique of colonialism.
