John Ford's romantic vision of Ireland. Sean (John Wayne) a retired boxer returns to the town of his birth after vowing to never fight again. He falls in love with a red haired beauty Mary Kate (Maureen O'Hara), her brother disapproves and refuses to pay the dowry when they marry. Sean is forced into a fight to resolve matters and a long, travelling brawl ensues.
