Altman transplants Chandler's 1950's gumshoe 'Philip Marlowe' (played by Elliott Gould) to a hedonistic and venal 70's Hollywood over which he casts a sardonic eye. The film has a wonderful 'sun bleached ' look and is full of memorable scenes, sharp dialogue and unexpected turns.
