Late Spring is a poignant family drama from a master which examines the tension between tradition and modernity. 'Noriko' is 27 and comes under pressure to marry but would prefer to continue caring for her widowed father.
The Only Son was Ozu's first sound picture. In depression-era Japan a woman works hard in a factory to fund her son's education.
