'Kes' Director: Ken Loach (1969) adapted from the book 'A Kestrel for a Knave' by Barry Hines
A deeply moving film of remarkable empathy, insight and humour which remains a touchstone of naturalistic, social-realist filmmaking. Young 'Billy Casper' is tormented both at home and at school. He has no grounds for optimism of a better future. However when he finds a young kestrel he takes an interest in falconry and begins to train the bird - he finds purpose and relief from his hardships.
