'Damnation' Director: Béla Tarr (1988) Curzon 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray | Hungarian w/ English subtitles
A lonely drifter in a rain-soaked industrial wasteland spends his days in the Titanik Bar, coveting its haunting, already-married resident singer.
The first collaboration between Tarr and Nobel laureate novelist László Krasznahorkai, who would go on to work with the director on four additional films - Damnation laid the foundation from which the director's subsquent works develop, though separated from his later films by its unique blend of existentialism and film noir aesthetic.
With a hypnotic score by Tarr regular Mihály Víg, featuring Trabant songs sung beautifully by actor Vali Kerekes.
Special features include:
- Interviews with director Bela Tarr, composer Mihály Víg and actor Miklós B. Szélely
- Macbeth (1982)
