Inspired by the 1928 jazz-influenced symphonic poem by George Gershwin — Gene Kelly, producer Arthur Freed, director Vincente Minnelli and a skilled production team conjure an entertainment for the ages, with dazzling dance sequences and original music by the Gershwins, impressionist set stylings and a beguiling screen debut from Leslie Caron.
